Explicitly Teach Students How to Cite Text Evidence
1. Teach Students to Paraphrase Evidence and Apply Directly Quotes
Make sure that you explicitly teach the different ways to cite bear witness from the text: quoting and paraphrasing. I do teach both types simply, honestly, I prefer to have my students paraphrase the bear witness in their own words. This keeps them from plagiarizing and having an answer that is not their original thoughts.
